The Huff Post gets religion … kind of

February 25, 2010

Interesting development over at the Huffington Post. They’ve started a religion section. Paul Brandeis Raushenbush, the new religion editor (also a dean at Princeton and an ordained Baptist minister), introduces the section with a letter addressed to “religious (and sane) America.” Hmm…. But here’s the thrust:

Wherever you stand on the merits of religion, or whatever your personal religious practice — there is no question that religion plays a crucial role in how humans make meaning, create community, act politically, and find mandates for how to live a good life. HuffPost Religion is dedicated to providing a provocative yet respectful forum for how religion is and should be functioning.

Of course, this is the Huffington Post, so it should come as no surprise that this section will be run and written by liberals. They’re going to tell us how religion should be functioning, right? But I’m hoping ol’ Raush will have the foresight to feature conservative voices as well. They don’t have to be the “strident” voices he’s complaining about. Just thoughtful people who can add some depth to the conversation. Otherwise, HuffPost readers will continue to live in their liberal bubble.
