Prof addresses church-state myths in WaPo piece

April 28, 2011

When it comes to church-and-state issues, the liberals tend to downplay the role of religion in the history of our country while the conservatives want to overstate it. The truth is always more complicated. And I think history prof David Sehat  does a nice job in conveying that with this Washington Post piece “Five myths about church and state in America.” Sehat touches on the blasphemy laws, state-funded churches and Revolutionary-era churchgoing habits.

Fascinating. Brief. Definitely worth reading.

Thanks for the tip on this one. Brief to read, but think I’ll be chewing on it for quite a while!
